An Crúbín

"NOLA" 29th October - 19th November
Pinhole images I took in New Orleans when I was there in February '08, in preparation for an exhibition A Tale of Two Cities, (responding to hurricane Katrina in 2005) .Most of the shots are from formerly submerged levels, and I was playing with the sunlight where I could, either flashing off the vehicles going past, or drawing with it directly into the pin hole of the camera. Allthough I liked the quiet leafy suburbs, sometimes the emptiness of the place was hauntingly sombre, the inclusion of activity in the images are fleeting, only the glimpses of sunlight flashing. The picture of the bridge is from The Lower 9th ward, where the levee was damaged by a barge blown off it’s mooring and the wave washed away the whole district.
